Wendy Levinson, M.D., is a professor and past chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She has served as chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), president of the Association of Professors of Medicine, president of the Society of General Internal Medicine, and a member of the ABIM Foundation Board of Trustees when they created Choosing Wisely. Dr. Levinson was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2015. Dr. Levinson is a national and international expert in the field of physician–patient communication and, in particular, on the disclosure of medical errors to patients. She has led efforts to educate and engage residents and faculty members in patient safety, quality improvement, and the stewardship of finite resources. Dr. Levinson has led innovative projects to improve the organization of care for patients with complex chronic disease. Most recently, she is leading Choosing Wisely Canada, a campaign to help physicians and patients engage in conversations about the overuse of tests and procedures and support physician efforts to help patients make smart and effective choices to ensure high-quality care. Dr. Levinson is also coordinating an international collaborative group working on Choosing Wisely in multiple countries. She received her medical degree from McMaster University School of Medicine.
